Physiotherapy is a part of health care profession which emphasizes the use pf physical approaches in the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of diseases or disability condition. Physiotherapy deals with physical problems particularly those associated with Neuro-Muscular, Musculo-Skeletal, Cardiovascular, Respiratory system and other disabling conditions by means of various physical modalities. The therapeutic methods are based essentially on movement, manual therapy and Physical agents.

A Physiotherapist is able to asses, plan and provide therapeutic services to the patients.

After successful completion of course, he/she can seek placement as physiotherapist in hospital, rehabilitation Centers and Schools of physiotherapy.

The avenue for research in the field of rehabilitation and higher academic qualification are also available.  


To learn the skills of Physical Therapy it is essential to acquire knowledge and application of the medical health sciences and clinical sciences. A Physical Therapist is able to prevent, identify, assess, correct or alleviate acute or prolonged movement dysfunction.
Physical Therapist may work in hospital, clinics, rehabilitation centers, schools for handicapped children, geriatric centers, nursing homes and sport settings etc.
Physical Therapist can also be self employed practitioners, clinical or academic teachers or researchers.

COURSE STUDY
Bachelor of Science (Hons.) Physical Therapy course conducted at NIOH is affiliated to the University of Calcutta. The duration of course is three years and six months internship. The students during entire period of study has to complete the prescribed hours of curriculum.

BASIS OF ADMISSION
The selection of candidates for admission to Bachelor of Science (Hons) Physical Therapy course is made on the basis of merit in the All India Joint Entrance Examinations. For information on Foreign student admission criteria contact NIOH directly.

ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS
Candidates seeking admission to Bachelor of Science (Hons) Physical Therapy course must have passed the examination of Senior School Certificate Examination of the Central Board of Secondary Education (12 Years) or an examination recognized as equivalent thereto with 50% marks or more marks in the aggregate of four subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English) provided the student has passed in each subject separately or its equivalent.

The Candidate should have completed seventeen years of age before the 1st day of October in the year in which he/she seeks admission.
