Investigative
Services
In modern traditional medicine no
diagnoses is complete without supporting evidences obtained through
specialized investigative services. The National Institute for the
Orthopaedically Handicapped has its own facilities for medical
investigations pertaining to orthopedics.
The X-Ray facilities are located on
the second level of the main building right by the Operation Theatre
and opposite to the female and pediatric recovery unit . It is
staffed by a team of well trained radiology techs who are
responsible for the operations and maintenance of the equipment .
Even though a lot of the general procedures are completed by the
techs independently, yet, the complex procedures are invariably
attended and directed by the concerning physicians themselves and
are frequently attended by the various ancillary medical students of
the institute . A consultant radiologist is available as required to
decipher the results.
The pathology laboratory on the
ground level of the institute provides all basic pathology
work-ups and a few specialized services. The head of department is a
qualified pathologist, who has a staff of pathology techs for the
routine work .
To justify costs, advanced diagnostic
services are obtained from one of the five medical college hospitals
in the near vicinity within the city of Calcutta, due to their
pre-existing facilities, like Computed Tomography or Radio Bone
Scans. Patients are referred to one of the five nearby medical
college hospitals which have advanced facilities available, again
free of charge for the patients.
